Lauren’s program at UCSD left her somewhat off-cycle for internships, so she applied to programs flexible enough to accept her despite having to start in mid-June. She received a NSF grant to work at Tulane for economics professors. Meanwhile, Peter finished the bewildering experience of graduation and started looking for internships and job opportunities in the think tank world. He spent a few weeks in DC before going to visit Lauren and take some time off while applying.
Little did they know how much they would fall in love with New Orleans. Both Peter and Lauren loved every bit of the city – from the delicious Cajun cuisine to the slow pace of life and friendly people to the heavenly taste of PJ’s Iced Coffee – and declared it their absolute favorite city in the world. Without a car, Peter and Lauren relied on bikes, buses, and trolleys to get around as they explored all the sights, sounds, and tastes of the city.
Peter eventually let to go off to interview for internships in DC; Lauren left at the end of August to return to her Senior Year at Simon’s Rock. But they still keep that summer in New Orleans in their hearts as a magical time.
