A month or so later, Peter came to visit Lauren at her college, Simon’s Rock, in Great Barrington, MA. After a three-hour bus ride, Lauren picked Peter up from the bus station driven by some fellow students who had offered to give them a ride back to campus. Peter still remembers how Lauren beamed as she ran to greet him. The visit was off to a weird start with the drivers choosing the odd topic of “blood tattoos” for casual conversation. Though Lauren was very nervous about Peter’s impression of these students and therefore her college generally, Peter played it cool as usual and acted as though nothing was out of place.

Though the weekend started off well, Peter unfortunately made the error of eating a poorly cooked burger with an egg on it at a French restaurant in GB. Peter found himself very sick almost immediately, and was out of commission for the next day. Lauren also became sick later from that same meal. Despite each other’s ailments, Lauren and Peter think that was the moment they knew they were in it for the long haul as they took turns caring for each other. When Peter returned with Lauren to Trumbull in order to catch a train, Lauren’s mother Liane was the first person to officially refer to us as “boyfriend and girlfriend.” Although Peter was sad to leave Lauren (even after an inauspicious first visit to GB), he soon returned to Trumbull to spend time with the Leedoms during the month of January.
